Soccer Clinic

Nipissing University recently partnered with North Bay Youth Soccer to examine youth development in sport as part of a three-year study.

Dr. Mark Bruner, assistant professor in the bachelor of physical and health education program (BPHE), and Chris Forrest, a fourth-year BPHE student, conducted the study with local youth soccer teams.

The project’s goal is to build an understanding of the factors influencing positive youth development in sport. Youth who participated in the study were invited to attend a free soccer clinic, led by coaches and players of the Nipissing Lakers Men’s and Women’s soccer teams at North Bay’s Steve Omischl Sports Complex on September 1.

A special thanks to all the Laker players and coaches who helped out with the event.

The project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and Sport Canada.
