By: Lucas SwanekNipissing’s Muskoka campus hosted the second Youth Summit on the Environment earlier this month, concurrent to the main 2012 Biodiversity Summit: Biodiversity Loss – from Science to Policy, which took place at the Rene Caisse Theatre in Bracebridge.
The Youth Summit was attended by senior high school students from Parry Sound, Almaguin, and Bracebridge Secondary Schools. The students were able to attend the Biodiversity Summit at the Rene Caisse Theatre, speak with some of the world’s leading experts in Biodiversity loss during an informal lunch, meet the speakers, and engage in a variety of activities following the main event.
The Summit successfully engaged the public with university and high school students, academics and other professionals, in an open discussion on the implications of biodiversity loss.
A communiqué was developed by the high school students and will be presented to the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor and Parry Sound-Muskoka MP; the Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment; and NDP and Liberal Environment critics.Click here to read the Youth Communiqué 2012.Click here for more information on the Youth Summit on the Environment.Click here for more information on the Biodiversity Summit: Perspectives on Biodiversity Loss.
