Lakers hockey goes one and one

The Nipissing University Lakers hockey team continued their streak of winning one game and losing another this past weekend, posting a win on Friday against Ryerson, before dropping the next game to York.On Friday night at home in Memorial gardens in front of 1,390 fans, the Lakers needed the entire 60 minutes to register the win. Vern Cooper potted the winning goal with less than a second remaining on the clock to give the Lakers a 4-3 win in a wild game.
Grant Toulmin, Lucan McKinley and Matt Paton also scored for the Lakers.
The victory celebration would be short lived, however, as the team headed to Toronto on Saturday to face off against the York Lions.
While Cooper popped another late third-period goal, it was too little too late as the Lakers fell 2-1 to the Lions.
With the weekend split, the Lakers sit in sixth place in the crowded OUA East, with a 5-6-0 record.  They’re tied in points with seven-place Queen’s (4-3-2), who have two games-in-hand, and are a point back of Carleton (5-4-1), who have one game in hand. It’s a tight field in the division, with UQTR leading the pack at 15 points, just five points up on the Lakers.
