Eco-friendly chemistry on tap at Nipissing
While developing new cancer fighting molecules, Nipissing University professor Dr. Mukund Jha is also working to make important chemical reactions more efficient and eco-friendly. He’ll be discussing the movement to more “green” chemistry in the second instalment of Nipissing’s Award Winners Speaker Series on November 20 at 7 p.m. in the Harris Learning Library.
Creative organic synthesis is a cornerstone for feeding the demands of numerous research areas, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, photochemistry, fragrances and pigments. It is crucial for synthetic chemists to develop and fine-tune efficient and environmentally-conscious reactions. Join Dr. Jha for a discussion, titled The Art and Science of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, on his work to help make cancer research as well as the pharmaceutical industry more eco-friendly.
The presentation is free of charge and all are welcome.
The Award Winners Speakers Series was introduced this year in celebration of the university’s 20th anniversary as an independent degree granting institution. The series features Nipissing faculty who have earned a prestigious Research Achievement Award, speaking about their work.
