Completed in early 2020, the Teaching Hub boasts a number of state-of-the-art classrooms and work spaces designed to facilitate collaboration and exploration of teaching and learning best practices.
Within the Teaching Hub there are 5 important areas:
The Lounge (A250)
Current Capacity: 7
Pre-Covid Capacity: 25
This is the first area most visitors will see. It is a space designed for discussion, brown-bag lunches, and a variety of casual conversations that can and should take place whenever it’s most convenient. This space is available for booking in conjunction with the Auditorium and/or Sandbox for special events. Otherwise, this space provides an open and collaborative environment for faculty and staff.
The Auditorium (A250A)
Current Capacity: 9
Pre-Covid Capacity: 20
This is the main speaking space with the Teaching Hub. It is designed for small seminars, but has flexible seating in order to accommodate active learning. The Auditorium is vented for smudging, and has a number of large screens available to share information.
The Teaching Chairs Resource Centre (A250B)
This is a space dedicated to housing teaching and learning resources for the entire institution. The four rotating Teaching Chairs, will share this space for office hours and assist faculty and staff in their unique areas of knowledge and expertise.
The Sandbox (A252C)
Current Capacity: 12
Pre-Covid Capacity: 26
This is probably the most exciting part of the Teaching Hub. The Sandbox is equipped will fully mobile furniture, ranging from regular tables and chairs, to high bar stools, to bean bag chairs. Nothing ever needs to stay the same; and faculty and staff are encouraged to experiment; any furniture not in use can be hidden in a dedicated storage space. The Sandbox also has a variety of moveable whiteboards, and is also vented for smudging and equipped with a number of screens that can be used in different configurations.
