Saturday Sessions: We offer free virtual literacy programming on selected Saturdays (10:00 a.m.-11:15 p.m.) each Fall and/or Winter term. During these sessions, learners are partnered one-on-one or in small groups with Nipissing University teacher candidates to engage them in literacy learning opportunities.
At each of our Saturday Sessions, learners:
- Participate in interactive group and one-on-one/small group activities
- Develop skills in a high-support learning environment
- Interact with encouraging adults, who model enthusiasm for reading and literacy
Registration for the Saturday Sessions is required prior to attending a session. The registration link will be sent by email. For notifications of registration dates, please email us at nureads@nipissingu.ca to be placed on our listserv.
Each session offers mixed age programming and is available to anyone between the ages of 5-11 years. Our most recent Saturday Sessions have been virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Past in-person events have been held on campus.
Spring Break Virtual Event: During April 2021, we offered a virtual Spring Break event. This virtual event for ages 5-11 was created by four teacher candidates with Tara-Lynn Scheffel (as part of their community leadership experience. It featured 10 read alouds with a variety of literacy learning opportunities that invited learners to respond through poetry, observation, art and much more! Learners were able to work independently from home and choose their own path through the week.
