RATE OF PAY:                                  A Single room within a shared suite in either Governors House, Chancellors House or   Founders House Residence from April                                                            28 to August 18, 2024 (value $745/month)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Summer On-Call Student Staff are responsible for assisting with after-hour emergencies and building coverage in either the Chancellors House, Founders House, or Governors House residence on a rotating basis, which provides coverage when desks are closed overnight. The Summer On-Call Student Staff will live in the building they are on-call in for the summer. There will be up to 10-12 shifts per month. On-call shifts are scheduled nightly from 8:30 pm until 8:30 am the next day. During this time, the Summer On-Call Student Staff will hold an emergency on-call cell phone and respond to concerns from guests and students staying in the building and/or facility.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

This position will assist with the following:

  • Must conduct two rounds during their scheduled on-call shift through the complex they are on-call at.
  • Respond to emergencies and contact professional staff as appropriate for response.
  • Must remain in the residence complex assigned at all times during the scheduled shift.
  • Must pick up the on-call phone at the residence office in their complex by 8:20 pm on the day of their scheduled shift.
  • Will assist with late night check ins within their complex.
  • Report any deficiencies or damages that are reported or noticed during shift.
  • Work in pairs during higher occupancy times
  • Other related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Able to work rotating shifts
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays (i.e. Canada Day, Civic Holiday, etc.)
  • Employee must be willing to stay overnight in residence during scheduled on-call shifts
  • Preference may be given to those students working for Nipissing University in a summer position; please note the position you will or hope to hold in the summer in your cover letter.
  • Must provide a copy of a current negative Criminal Reference Check at time of hiring
