UTS has been working on a variety of information and system security enhancements, one of which is improving our NU login password security.
This NU login is used when accessing office computers, file shares and online resources such as WebAdvisor, Ellucian, Library e-resources, Blackboard.
Please note: This initiative does not affect your NU Mail/Gmail login or password at all.
Compromised university passwords can have devastating effects, resulting in unauthorized disclosure, modification or destruction of sensitive university information and assets.
In order to minimize this risk and to align ourselves with industry best practices and auditor requirements, we are introducing two changes to our existing NU login password practices.
Change 1: Your NU login password will now expire every 90 days.
This applies to NU employees only, not NU students.
- Your first password expiry will not occur for 90 days.
- Advanced notices will start to appear 14 days prior to the expiry date, encouraging you to change your password.
- If you wait until your password expires, you will simply be required to enter a new one at the NU login prompt and then can continue to work as usual.
Change 2: Your NU login password will have to meet new complexity requirements.
- Your new password must be at least 9 characters long.
- You will not be able to use words contained in your username.
- You will be required to use at least three of the following character types: number, special character, upper case character, lower case character.
In order to help you manage these changes, we are providing you with a new Self-Serve Reset Password Management (SSRPM) tool.
This tool will help you reset your password and remember a forgotten password at your convenience.
