Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (ICADP)

After completing the Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (formerly the Aboriginal Classroom Assistant Diploma Program) you will be qualified to work, under the professional direction of the classroom teacher and school Principal, as a classroom assistant with Indigenous and non-Indigenous primary school children.


​​ICADP Part I:

  • ​Minimum completion of Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent. Candidates without grade 12 can be admitted if they are 21 years or older and have been out of school for two years or more;
  • Recent Criminal Reference Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. 


  • Successful completion of ICADP Part I (formerly ACADP Part I) courses with a minimum of 60% in each course; and,
  • Successful completion of EDUC 1010 ACADP Practicum 1;
  • Recent Criminal Reference Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. 


  • Successful completion of all components of Part I and Part II of the Native Classroom Assistant Diploma Program within four years from enrolment;
  • Recent Criminal Reference Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. 


Program Components

The program consists of two parts: two consecutive summer sessions at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, and two in-school placements with a qualified teacher, in a classroom setting, during the school year.

Summer classes are held for six weeks starting the first week of July. Students are enrolled in mandatory courses for the program. All courses are held during the week from Monday to Friday. Evenings and weekends are dedicated to preparing and completing course assignments.
